What is PayFast?

  2. PayFast is an electronic fund transfer service supported by Faster Payment System(FPS) that allows you to pay and receive HKD & CNY instantly*, using designated mobile number or email address instead of a bank account number.

    A recipient can receive funds as long as he/she has bank account in Hong Kong, and has registered his/her mobile number or email address with Faster Payment Service.

    * The exact timing of crediting funds to recipient's account will be subject to the operation of recipient banks.


  3. Are there any service charges for using PayFast?

  4. PayFast is free of charge.


  5. How do I activate and use PayFast?

  6. You can perform a one-time activation from Transfer Settings via DBS iBanking or DBS mobile banking apps.

    During activation, you will need your Secure Device for authentication.

    Upon activation, you will receive HK$10,000 maximum PayFast daily limit. Within the limit you can make instant transfers to any mobile number or email address, with only your DBS iBanking username and password or biometric authentication.

    You can view and amend your PayFast daily limit via DBS iBanking.


  7. How does a PayFast fund transfer work?

    • Receiving money

    • - Inform sender of your registered mobile number or email address

      - Inform sender to send funds to your registered mobile number or email address using transfer function, supported by FPS, on his/her bank's internet banking or mobile banking platform


    • Sending money:

    • At DBS iBanking:

      - Login DBS iBanking

      - Select  "Transfers ", then select "PayFast"

      - Enter recipient and transfer details

      - Verify details and submit


      Via DBS iWealth® or DBS digibank:

      - Select "PayFast" from the homepage of DBS iWealth® or DBS digibank

      - Enter recipient and transfer details

      - Verify details and submit


  8. How would I ensure I am sending to the right person?

  9. When you transfer funds via PayFast, you will enter the recipient mobile number or email address and click "Verify" to perform a lookup. Doing so will display the recipient's partial name. You can verify he/she is indeed the right person.


  10. How would I know my friend has registerd his/her mobile number or email address to receive funds?

  11. When you transfer funds via PayFast, you will enter the recipient mobile number or email address and click "Verify" to perform a lookup. Partial recipient name will be shown when the mobile number or email address is registered. Otherwise, you will be notified.


  12. Is there a transfer limit for PayFast?

  13. The maximum daily limit for PayFast is HKD 10,000. You can set your desired limit via DBS iBanking. For transfer amount above HKD 10,000, you can go to "Transfer" then select "To Local Recipient".


Receiving funds with mobile number / email address via FPS Addressing Service
  1. How can I use my mobile number or email address to receive funds?

  2. You can register your mobile number or email address with the FPS Addressing Service database via DBS iBanking or DBS mobile banking apps to receive funds transfers.

    In the registration process, you will need to select the DBS account to link up with your mobile number or email address. We will use this DBS account as the default account of your registering mobile number or email address.


  3. Will my personal information be showed on the sender's bank internet or mobile banking platform?

  4. Only your partial name will be showed on the sender's bank internet or mobile banking platform for transaction verification.


  5. Can I link both my mobile number and email address to the same DBS accoun

  6. Yes, you may link both your mobile number and email address to the same DBS bank account.


  7. I recently changed my mobile number, and would like to update my registration record in FPS Addressing Service. What should I do?

  8. If you have recently changed your mobile number or email address, you may follow the steps below to update your registration record in FPS Addressing Service.

    1) Deregister your old mobile number (or email address) by going to "Transfer Settings" of DBS iBanking, DBS iWealth® or DBS digibank;

    2) Update your new mobile number or email address via DBS iBanking;

    3) When your new mobile number or email address is effective (you will be notified by SMS), you can then register again via DBS iBanking, DBS iWealth® or DBS digibank.


  9. What should I do if I lost my mobile phone?

  10. If you have lost your mobile phone, please call (852) 2290 8888 or visit any of our branches as soon as possible.


  11. What should I do if I change my mobile number?

  12. If your existing mobile number is registered for FPS Addressing Service, please unregister it via Transfer > Transfer Settings (for DBS iBanking) or Setting > Transfer Settings (for digibank/DBS iWealth®) before you update your new mobile number. You can register FPS with your new mobile number once it becomes effective.


  13. Can I register for FPS at different banks to facilitate transfer between my local bank accounts?

  14. Yes, but you can only set one default receiving account per proxy ID (e.g. mobile number, email address).


  15. Will I be notified when I receive funds at my default account?

  16. You will receive both SMS and email notifications when you receive funds at your default DBS accounts.


  17. Can anyone view my FPS activities?

  18. Only the sender and receiver of the transaction can view the transaction record.


Bank Account allowed for FPS Addressing Service
  1. What types of bank accounts can I link my mobile number or email address to? Are joint accounts included?

  2. All single-name accounts and joint-name accounts (excluding joint-accounts with all-to-sign instruction) of DBS Current and Savings accounts are eligible to be linked to mobile number or email address to receive funds transfers.


  3. Can all joint account holders link their mobile number or email address to the joint account?

  4. Yes, each joint account holder can choose to link his/her own mobile number or email address to the joint account (excluding joint-accounts with all-to-sign instruction).


  5. What will happen if I close the bank account linked to my mobile number or email address?

  6. Once you close your bank account, all mobile number or email address linked to that account will automatically be de-registered, and you will be notified accordingly via SMS or email.


3rd party funds transfer
  1. I used to transfer funds to my registered payee at another local bank. Why is now my FPS transfer to the same payee rejected?

  2. For security reasons, the recipient account name of payee needs to be verified in an FPS transaction. Please check if the recipient account name of your registered payee matches with the payee bank's record. If they do not match, the FPS transaction will be rejected.


  3. How to update the recipient account name of my registered payee?

  4. The recipient account name of a registered payee cannot be changed. You have to delete the payee and register again.


  5. Why was my transaction still rejected after I had updated the recipient account name of my registered payee?

  6. In this case, please contact the recipient bank for further information.


What is Scan & Pay?
  1. What is Scan & Pay?

  2. Scan & Pay is our new mobile payment feature powered by Faster Payment System (FPS)*. Simply use DBS digibank or DBS iWealth® app to scan the FPS QR code provided by a merchant or payee and you can checkout, pay bills or transfer funds faster.

    * PayFast service is supported by Faster Payment System which is provided and operated by Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited.

    ^ The exact time of crediting funds to a recipient's account will be subject to the operation of recipient bank.


  3. Where can I use Scan & Pay?

  4. You can use it to make purchases right at the merchants who accept FPS QR code for payment, or to pay utility or merchant bills with the FPS QR code printed on the bill statements, or to transfer funds to payees with the FPS QR code provided by them.

    Generally, there should be an FPS logo within/beside the QR code supporting the FPS service. If you are not sure whether the QR code supports FPS service, please check with the payee/merchant.

  7. What is the maximum payment amount of Scan & Pay?

  8. Your daily transfer limit is shared between PayFast and Scan & Pay. You can visit DBS iBanking to customise your daily transfer limit up to HKD 10,000. If your payment amount exceeds HKD 10,000, you may need to check with the merchant/payee to see if there are other payment options.


  9. I can’t scan the QR code. What should I do?

  10. Please check with the merchant/payee who provided the FPS QR code if the QR code supports the FPS service.


  11. Is it safe to pay with Scan & Pay?

  12. Scan & Pay transactions are authenticated with your login credentials at DBS digibank or DBS iWealth® app or biometric information. Upon completion of the transaction, you will also receive confirmation via SMS and email.
