Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any age limit for the insured foreign domestic helper?

Yes. The insured foreign domestic helper must be between the age of 18 and 60, starting on the domestic helper insurance policy effective date.

If a maid contracts a disease or suffers from injury when travelling with his / her employer overseas, will this be covered under the Domestic Helper Insurance Plan?

Under the current Employees' Compensation Ordinance, the employer is responsible for compensating all employees injured while arising out of and in the course of employment. However, the domestic helper insurance policy only provides coverage within Hong Kong.

If I apply for another same Domestic Helper Insurance Plan simultaneously, can I enjoy double protection?

No. Each domestic helper is not allowed to be covered under more than one Domestic Helper Insurance Plan. If your domestic helper is covered under more than one such policy:

  • We'll consider your domestic helper to be insured under the policy which provides the highest amount of benefit or
  • We'll consider your domestic helper to be insured under the policy which was issued first if the benefit amount is the same

In any case, we'll refund the premium paid from the commencement date, without interest, to you under the policy that is not giving coverage.

Is there any waiting period under the Domestic Helper Insurance Plan?

Hospitalisation and surgical expenses resulting from sickness are subject to a 14-day waiting period from the effective date of the Domestic Helper Insurance Plan.
