Eligibility

Customer who have a HKD Multi-Currency Savings account (apart from non packaged customers) can apply for a DBS Diamond Debit Card.
Whether you can apply for a new debit card depends on if your existing card is already linked to your HKD Multi-Currency Savings account.
If you already have a HKD Multi-Currency Savings account:
  1. Go to the "ATM/Debit Card" page and click "Apply for New Card".
  2. If you see a message that there are no available accounts, it likely means you need to replace your existing card instead of applying for a new one.
Yes, both cardholders are jointly and severally liable with each other for the obligations and liabilities in connection with the debit card.
If you do not have an Multi-Currency Savings account but would like to apply for the new debit card, you will first need to open an Multi-Currency Savings account at one of our branches.

If you already have an Multi-Currency Savings account that is not denominated in HKD (for example, it is in another currency), you will need to perform a foreign exchange transaction to convert your existing Multi-Currency Savings account balance to HKD. This is to ensure you have an HKD denominated Multi-Currency Savings account, which is required to apply for the new debit card.
To apply for the new debit card, you need to have DBS mobile banking activated.

If you don't have mobile banking, please register for DBS iBanking first. Then download the digibank HK app and login with your iBanking username and password to activate mobile banking. Please visit Service Demo for details.

Usage

Provisioning to Apple Wallet:

For security reasons, re-authentication is required after transferring your Debit Card information to a new iPhone. For the DBS UnionPay Diamond Debit Card, authentication currently only supports calling the DBS hotline. Alternatively, you may manually remove your card information from your new iPhone and then re-add it to Apple Wallet.

Other usage:

No. When you make a foreign currency transaction, the corresponding foreign currency deposits will be deducted from your account and settled automatically. If you don't have sufficient funds in that foreign currency, it will be converted and settled in Hong Kong dollars.
You are not required to activate any function to perform POS transactions overseas. To withdraw cash overseas, please log in to DBS digibank app > “More” > “ATM Card Services” > “Manage Overseas Transaction Settings” to activate the overseas withdrawal function.
  1. Before travelling aboard, please ensure you have enabled overseas withdrawal setting via DBS digibank HK or DBS iBanking. Learn More.
  2. Verify that the ATM is under supported networks. For more details. Please click here for more details.
  3. Confirm that your HKD Multi-Currency Savings savings account has sufficient balance as the service fee will be debited from HKD account, instead of respective foreign currency accounts.
If you conduct a transaction in supported currency without having the supported currency account in place, the transaction will be rejected. You can first perform a foreign exchange transaction with your HKD Multi-Currency Savings account and the corresponding currency account will be automatically set up. For instance, if you don’t have a JPY account, you can convert any amount of HKD to JPY and your Multi-Currency Savings account will automatically support JPY transactions from then on.
There are a few possible reasons that lead to the transaction being rejected:
  1. Your HKD Multi-Currency Savings savings Account does not have sufficient fund to complete the transaction. You should ensure your linked Multi-Currency Savings Account has sufficient funds before spending:
You can Log in to DBS digibank HK app and tap “Debit/ATM Card” to check if you have deposited funds and your card has been linked to your HKD Multi-Currency Savings Account.

  2. The transaction is done in a supported currency without having the supported currency account in place - You can first perform a foreign exchange transaction in your HKD multi-currency account and the corresponding currency account will be automatically set up. For instance, if you don’t have a JPY account, you can convert any amount of HKD to JPY and your Multi-Currency Savings account will automatically support JPY transactions from then on.

  3. The merchant does not support payment with UPI network – Please look for UPI logo at the payment counter or consult the merchant staff before paying with your debit card.

  4. Some merchants (e.g. in Japan) only accept payment by inserting a card to into the POS machine - Please inform the merchant staff that the payment is to be made via the UnionPay Network and insert your card into the POS machine to complete the transaction.
Apart from basic ATM functions on DBS or JETCO ATMs, e.g. account balance enquiry, secondary accounts, depending on account type, also support cash withdrawal at specific ATMs as listed below:

Applicable account Available function ATM network
HKD Current Account
HKD Savings Account
HKD Multi-Currency Savings account
Cash withdrawal ATM functions e.g. account balance enquiry DBS or JETCO ATM
CNY Multi-Currency Savings account (can only be added to debit card as secondary account) Cash withdrawal DBS ATM
Other currencies Multi-Currency Savings account ATM functions e.g. account balance enquiry DBS or JETCO ATM

Important reminder: If you want to spend/withdraw cash in the 14 supported currencies via your Multi-Currency Savings account, you do not need to link the respective foreign currency accounts as secondary accounts as our card allows you to pay with your foreign currency Multi-Currency Savings account whether you link it or not. The purpose of linking an account as a secondary account is only to enquire account balance.
This is because POS transactions are only displayed on your mobile banking record when the transaction is posted and transactions usually take one day for the transaction to post (but can also last as long as 30 days after the transaction date depending on when the merchant posts the transaction). Hence if you would like to instantly see your transaction details, you may refer to email or SMS notifications sent to you.
You may input your 6-digit ATM PIN on the POS terminal to complete the transaction.
If you forgot your ATM PIN, please click here to learn how to reset your ATM PIN.
For specific types of transactions such as transactions at hotels and cinemas, the pre-authorized amount would be 115% of the amount requested by merchant (for example, the merchant requested HK$100, the held amount would be HK$115). The final amount debited from your account will be confirmed when the merchant posts the transaction—if it is aligned with the amount requested by the merchant at the time of pre-authorization (i.e. HK$100), the remaining amount held will be released back to the account (i.e. HK$15).
The release date depends on the date of transaction posted by the merchant when delivering the service (e.g. at hotel checkout). If the merchant takes no action after 30 days from the date of pre-authorisation, the funds on hold will be auto-released.
Mail Order/Telephone Order, inflight, recurring, ecommerce are not supported as this stage.
The overseas POS transaction will usually involve currency exchange during settlement. Therefore, if you ask to reverse/ refund the overseas POS transactions, the amount you receive (if any) may be less than the amount debited due to such currency exchange adjustment and/ or handling fees.
Currently, the new debit card cannot be added to Google Pay. Although you cannot add it to Google Pay yet, you can add the debit card to Apple Pay or UnionPay app to conduct the card-not-present payment.
There may be two possible reasons that your debit card cannot be linked to UnionPay app:
  1. Your linked Multi-Currency Savings Account must contain a Renminbi account to do so. You may perform a currency exchange to Renminbi to designated CNY Multi-Currency Savings account via DBS digibank HK app, and retry binding the card afterwards.
  2. You are required to update your mobile phone number in your DBS account profile:
    • >Log in to DBS iBanking > select “Preferences” > “Update Personal Details”; or
    • Submit the Change of Customer’s Personal Data Instruction Form (for individual) at a branch or mail it to GPO Box 400.
  3. If you are the secondary account holder of your linked Multi-Currency Savings Account (joint account), binding to UnionPay app is not supported at the moment.
You can spend in currencies supported by UnionPay beyond the 14 currencies offered by DBS. However, any currency exchanges will be done on the spot according to UnionPay's rates. Please refer to the UnionPay acceptance network for the full list of supported currencies at List of Countries/Regions accepting UnionPay Cards.
