Paper Statement Fee to Credit Card Accounts

We are dedicated to making a greener future. In order to save the environment and reduce paper consumption, a Paper Statement Fee to credit card accounts has become effective from 1 January 2017.

Credit Card customers who receive at least one paper statement from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023 will be charged a Paper Statement Fee of HK$50 per annum starting from 2024 onwards.
The fee will be directly debited from the credit card account on 1 January 2023. Thereafter, if credit card customers receive at least one paper statement within any calendar year (January to December every year), a fee of HK$50 will continue to be applied each year.

  • Who will be charged for Paper Statement Fee?
    The Paper Statement Fee will be applicable to customers with any credit cards issued by the Bank, including but not limited to DBS Credit Cards, COMPASS Card and DBS Co-branded Cards (except DBS Business Card and Manulife Card (with MediPlus)).
  • Who will be eligible for the Paper Statement Fee waiver?
    • Cardholders aged 65 or above
    • Cardholders who opt out of receiving paper statements for credit card(s)

We are dedicated to making a greener future. In order to save the environment and reduce paper consumption, a Paper Statement Fee to Current and Savings account and / or Wealth Management Account has become effective from 1 March 2023.​

Who will be charged the Paper Statement Fee?​​​​

The Paper Statement Fee is applicable to DBS Treasures and DBS Account customers who receive at least one (i) Consolidated Statement; (ii) Wealth Management Account Consolidated Statement; or (iii) Current and Savings Account Statement within a month. The Paper Statement Fee is HK$5 monthly per customers.​​​

Will I receive any alert notification from the Bank when my eStatements/eAdvices is generated?
Effective from November 2019, you will receive an email notification from your registered email address when the latest eStatement/eAdvice is ready to view online. If you have not yet registered an email address with the Bank, we will only continue to send an SMS notification to your mobile phone number.
Can I change the designated email address/mobile number my alert notifications are sent to?
Yes, please log in to DBS iBanking to change your designated email address/mobile number.

What is the Paper Statement Fee for credit card and banking accounts?​​

Credit card customers who receive at least one paper statement within any calendar year will be charged a Paper Statement Fee of HK$50 on the first statement date of the next calendar year.​

Banking customers who receive at least one (i) Consolidated Statement; (ii) Wealth Management Account Consolidated Statement; or (iii) Current and Savings Account Statement within any calendar month will be charged a Paper Statement Fee of HK$5 in the following month.​

How can I avoid the Paper Statement Fee to credit card and banking accounts? ​

To avoid paying a Paper Statement Fee, cardholders can opt out from receiving paper statements (this is also applicable to customers who have already received any paper statement in 2023). No fee will be billed.

And, you can simply enrol the eStatement service to avoid paying the Paper Statement Fee for your banking accounts. You will be able to view, download and print out statements via DBS ibanking or DBS digibank HK at any time. Once you have successfully enrolled, you will receive a confirmation email.​

How much is the Paper Statement Fee charged to credit card and banking customers?​ ​
The Paper Statement Fee for credit card customers is HK$50 per customer annually. The fee will be imposed on customers who have received at least one paper statement within any calendar year (i.e. January to December every year).​

The Paper Statement Fee for banking customers is HK$5 per customer monthly. DBS has been dedicated in making a greener future. We would like to encourage customers using eStatement in order to save the environment and reduce paper consumption.
When will the paper statement fee for credit card and banking accounts be effective?​
The Paper Statement Fee for credit card accounts has become effective from 1 Jan 2017 and it will be debited from credit card accounts on the first statement date of 2023.

The Paper Statement fee applicable to customers with a Wealth Management Account and/or Current and Saving Accounts has become effective from 1 March 2023 and it will be debited from the relevant banking account on the 22nd of each month or the next business day from Monday to Saturday (except Sunday and Public Holidays).​​
What type of customers will be charged for receiving paper statement(s)?
​The Paper Statement Fee is applicable to customers with any credit card issued by the Bank, including but not limited to DBS Credit Cards, COMPASS Card and DBS Co-branded Cards (except DBS Business Card and Manulife Card (with MediPlus)).​

The Paper Statement Fee is applicable to (i) Consolidated Statement; (ii) Wealth Management Account Consolidated Statement; and (iii) Current and Savings Account Statement.​
Upon subscribing eStatement, if I require a paper statement as address proof for some application purposes, will I be charged? How do I request for a paper statement?
Yes. You could request for a copy of paper statement with a statement retrieval fee charged. For details, please refer to the statement retrieval fee in the Bank Charge Schedule for Treasures and DBS Account customers.​

You can place the request via DBS iBanking:​

I have a banking account and a credit card account. If I opt out of paper statements for my credit card account, but receive paper statements for the Current and Savings Account Statement after 1 March 2023, will I be charged?
Yes. You will still be subject to a Paper Statement Fee of HK$5 each month as you receive a paper statement for your banking account(s). From 1 March 2023, Paper Statement Fee is applicable to both credit card account(s) and banking account(s). We encourage our customers to subscribe eStatement for quick and easy access.​

Paper Statement Fee - Credit Cards Accounts

I have 3 credit cards with the Bank. If I continue to receive paper statements after 1 January 2023, will I be charged for 3 times?
No, you will be charged on Paper Statement Fee once only per annum, regardless of the number of credit cards you are holding.
I have 3 credit cards with the Bank. If I have opted out from receiving paper statements for one of my credit cards before 1 January 2023, will I be charged?
If a cardholder receives at least one paper statement within any calendar year (January to December every year), a fee of HK$50 will be applied.
I am currently holding a DBS credit card with DBS iBanking service but have not subscribed eStatement service. What if I apply for another DBS credit card, how do I subscribe eStatement service for all of my cards?
All you need is to login to DBS iBanking service> click "eStatement" under "My Accounts"> then click "Manage eStatement/eAdvice" > select "e-Copy" and adopt DBS eStatement service for all your cards.
If I have more than one credit card with the Bank and receive paper statement(s) throughout a calendar year, which credit card account will be debited?
Paper Statement Fee will be debited from the credit card account with the latest transaction record.
If I am an eStatement user but opt for receiving paper statement(s) in November of the year, will I still be charged? Will the fee be charged on a pro-rata basis?
Paper Statement Fee will not be imposed on a pro-rata basis. Customers who have received at least one paper statement(s) in November of the year will be charged in full.
I just applied for a DBS credit card with DBS iBanking service. Do I need to opt out from receiving paper statements?

Once you activate for and login to DBS iBanking service with your Credit Card No. and Card Expiry Date*/Initial Username, your credit card will be automatically be subscribed to receive eStatement only.

*Applicable to customers with Credit Card only, ATM card and password will be required for customers who have both Banking and Credit Card accounts.
How to subscribe eStatement service if I just applied for a DBS Credit Card, yet DBS iBanking service?

By registering and logging in to DBS iBanking service with your Credit Card No. and Card Expiry Date*, your credit card will be automatically be subscribed to receive eStatement only.

*Applicable to customers with Credit Card only, ATM card and password will be required for customers who have both Banking and Credit Card accounts.
I have already opted out from receiving paper statements for my current DBS credit card. What if I apply for another DBS credit card, do I need opt out from receiving paper statements for the new one?
If you have already opted out from receiving paper statements for your existing DBS credit card, statement of your newly-opened credit card will automatically be opted out from receiving paper statements, subscription is not required.
What if I apply for another DBS Credit Card, is it necessary to subscribe eStatement for my existing and new card respectively?

Once you register for and login to DBS iBanking service with your Credit Card No. and Card Expiry Date*, your credit card will be automatically subscribed to DBS eStatement service.

*Applicable to customers with Credit Card only, ATM card and password will be required for customers who have both Banking and Credit Card accounts.
Who is exempt from the Paper Statement Annual Fee to credit card accounts?​

I have three banking accounts with the Bank. If I continue to receive paper statements after 1 March 2023, will I be charged for 3 times?​ ​
No, you will be charged the Paper Statement Fee once a month, regardless of the number of statements you receive.
I have two Current and Savings Accounts and a Wealth Management Account with the Bank. If I choose to receive paper statements for one of my accounts after 1 March 2023, will I be charged the fee?​​ ​
If you receive at least one paper statement within any calendar month after 1 March 2023, a monthly fee of HK$5 will be applied.​​
I was born on 15 Oct 1958 and will become 65 after 15 Oct 2023. If I have received paper statements every month during March to September 2023, am I subject to the Paper Statement Fee?​​ ​
No. Customers who reach 65 in any calendar year will be entitled to a fee waiver. Since you are turning 65 in 2023, you will be exempted from the fee.​​
I have a single name account and two joint accounts - one with my husband and one with my daughter. If I have not yet registered for eStatement and receive a total of three paper statements for the accounts in March 2023, do I need to pay the Paper Statement Fee and how much is it?​​ ​
Yes. Regardless of the number of statements received in a month for the single and joint accounts, the Bank will treat you as one customer and you will be subject to a Paper Statement Fee of HK$5 for the month.​​
I received a banking consolidated paper statement on 15 May 2023 and I sign up for the eStatement service on 16 May 2023. Will I still be charged the Paper Statement Fee for May? Will the fee be charged on a pro-rata basis?​​ ​
Yes, you will be charged the Paper Statement Fee, but not on a pro-rata basis. Since you have already received a paper statement in May 2023, the Paper Statement Fee of HK$5 will apply and will be debited from your banking account in June 2023. ​​​

Customers are recommended to register for the eStatement service as soon as possible to enjoy the hassle-free benefits of managing eStatements online for free.​
I have a joint account with my wife who is eligible for the exemption. Will I and my wife be charged for the fee if we continue to receive paper statements?​​ ​
The fee waiver is given to the eligible account holder only (i.e. the wife). The other joint account holder (i.e. the husband) still has to pay the fee.​
Who is exempt from the Paper Statement Fee for banking customers?​ ​
The Paper Statement Fee is waived for the following customers holding a Wealth Management Account and/or Current and Savings Accounts:​

  • Customers aged 65 or above;​
  • Customers aged below 18;​
  • Customers with disabilities (including physical and mental disabilities);​
  • Customers with income below the minimum level of relevant income for Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;​
  • Customers receiving Government Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (supporting documents required);​
  • Customers receiving Government Disability Allowance (supporting documents required)​
What account will be used to debit the Paper Statement Fee for banking accounts?

The Paper Statement Fee will be directly debited from the Multi-Currency HKD Savings Account (single name) in the first place.​

If a customer does not have the account or there are insufficient funds in the account, the Bank will debit the fee from his/her account according to the following sequence:

  1. Non Multi-Currency HKD Savings Account (single name)​
  2. Non Multi-Currency HKD Current Account (single name)​
  3. Multi-Currency HKD Savings Account (joint names)​
  4. Non Multi-Currency HKD Savings Account (joint names)​
  5. Non Multi-Currency HKD Current Account (joint names)​
