2003 Hong Kong & Kowloon Walk Walk out a better life for the people in need Over 250 staff members of DBS and their family members and friends have participated in the 2003 Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk organised by The Community Chest on 12 January 2003.
To demonstrate the solidarity within the group, our team members
sported corporate windbreakers bearing the logo of DBS Bank. Moreover,
Frank Wong, Chairman of DBS Bank (Hong Kong), together with R G
Sullivan, CEO of DBS Bank (Hong Kong) led the staff to participate
in this meaningful charitable event.
Although the participants have to wake up early in the morning, it was well worth doing as all funds raised through the Walk would be allocated in full to enhance and improve the "Services for the Disabled" supported by the Community Chest's member agencies.
Training venue for Boy Scouts In October and November 2002, DBS provided the 18th Boy Scout troop with a venue for first aid training. It's always a pleasure for us to help the community.
Student visitors get rare insight into bank operations Since the development of society and education for the younger generation are closely related. DBS organized two visits for students of secondary and post-secondary schools this summer with two goals -- to enrich their banking knowledge and to nourish and broaden the scope of these future "owners" of our society.
On 17 July 2002, DBS co-organized a visit to our customer centre for a group of secondary students, with School Economic Times of Hong Kong Economic Times. Presentations were held to introduce the daily operations of branches and also outline the operations and development of the Customer Centre. Afterwards, Customer Centre colleague demonstrated how they handled phone inquiries about credit cards and securities trading.
On 25 July 2002, DBS organized a visit for a group of Hong Kong Young Ambassadors, who have participated in the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme 2002. The Scheme is jointly organized by the Tourism Commission of the Hong Kong SAR Government and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Group. It is one of the major projects under the "A Hospitable Hong Kong" campaign. The aim of the Scheme is to encourage and train young people to be helpful and outgoing Ambassadors for Hong Kong. To background these enthusiastic young people, their training programmes cover visits to different sectors in Hong Kong.
The visit started with a presentation on Hong Kong's banking industry and a brief introduction of DBS' operations in Hong Kong. Of course, the programme was not all listening and no walking or interesting observations. After the presentation the young Ambassadors were given a rare sight of the dealing room of Treasury & Markets at The Center.
Next came the Main Branch at the basement of The Center, where the Ambassadors were shown different sessions of the bank hall. The Ambassadors were surprised at what they saw, never having thought that the operations of a branch could be so interesting. To sum up, they certainly had a fruitful and productive morning with DBS.
